Threading, Silverlight, and Flash

Over at The Effect Generator, Ed writes an excellent breakdown of rich Internet application platforms and how they support multithreading. People who saw Sam’s presentation yesterday got a taste of why this is important, but it sounds like there are things that can be done on the Flash side to patch things up until true multithreading support arrives, probably in a future browser plugin.

    It will be interesting to see how the RIA space evolves with Silverlight and Microsoft really pushing their product. I agree with one of the comments on Ed’s article (at the above link) that requirements and users needs will drive a choice to develop in any particular platform. I’m also sure that we will see a tipping point where RIA will be more and more created in Silverlight, particularly as the installed base rises and Microsoft continues to bake all of their platforms together…
