While the premise of bartering has been around for quite a while (a la Craigslist barter section), it’s interesting to see sites such as http://www.swapthing.com and http://www.joebarter.com becoming more and more common in our current economic climate.
And then you have organizations like Burning Man who are taking it to the next level. For almost two decades, Burning Man has been a week-long event that allows no commerce. Instead, it’s a gifting economy. Everyone brings something to contribute. It’s quite an experience to see how much people are willing to give.
That’s pretty crazy that they have to tax their made up online currency. I wonder if they hosted the service outside of America if they would still be required to tax?
