Audience-Driven set lists for Steely Dan shows

I’ve been following some of my favorite artists and musicians on Twitter for the past month and have even had some direct contact with a few of them, which is pretty mind-blowing, most notably Donald Fagen from Steely Dan.  Thank you Twitter.

Steely Dan’s upcoming Rent Party ‘09 Tour will include multi-night stands of special setlist shows in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and Chicago. These special engagements will truly leverage the web in a meaningful and highly interactive way via their  ”Takin’ It To The Seats”  Internet Request Nights:  the Setlist is determined by the internet votes of ticket-holders for that show.

That’s pretty cool.  Its been done before by other artists for a song or two, to close a show or for an encore–but a complete setlist is very rare if unprecedented.

Can you say “audience-centric”?
